Hypercritica

Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 31, 2026

Hypercritica collects the information you provide when you create an account (name, email, authentication identifiers from Google sign-in) and the content you submit to the editor (manuscripts, essays, editorial chat). We use this information solely to operate the service for you.

User content is stored on Neon, a managed Postgres provider, with encryption in transit and at rest. We use third-party model providers (Inception Labs and OpenAI) to generate editorial suggestions; your content is sent to these providers solely for this purpose, under standard API terms. We do not sell user data, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing or analytics purposes.

To understand how Hypercritica is used and to fix problems, we use PostHog for product analytics, session recordings and error reports. This covers the pages you visit, the buttons you click, page timings and the technical details of errors. Session recordings never capture the text of your manuscript or essay: the editor and your book pages are left out of every recording, and form fields are masked. PostHog processes this data on our behalf and stores it in the United States.

We use cookies to keep you signed in and operate the editor, and a first-party cookie that lets PostHog tell visits apart. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. We may update this policy as the product evolves; material changes will be communicated to active users by email.

Payments are processed by Stripe. Your card details are handled by Stripe and are not stored by Hypercritica.

Connecting Hypercritica to ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant

If you connect Hypercritica to ChatGPT, Claude or another assistant, you choose what it may do on a consent screen: read your manuscripts, essays, Fred's notes and analyses, and, if you allow it, upload work, start Fred's reads, ask Fred questions, and accept or reject his suggestions. When you use Hypercritica from an assistant, the parts of your work and Fred's output that answer your request are sent to the company that runs that assistant (OpenAI for ChatGPT, Anthropic for Claude, Google for Gemini), which handles them under its own terms and privacy policy.

What we keep for a connection, and for how long:

  • Work you upload or change through an assistant: stored in your Hypercritica account like work you add in the editor, and kept until you delete it or your account.
  • Access tokens: one hour. Your assistant renews them while you keep using it. We store only a one-way hash.
  • Refresh tokens: 60 days. A connection unused for 60 days expires. We store only a one-way hash.

You can disconnect at any time under Connected apps in your account (hypercritica.com/account/connected-apps), which stops access at once.

To request deletion of your account or for any question about your data, email euwyn@wordsmith.page or yash@wordsmith.page.
